Giancarlo Esposito

Actor Giancarlo Giuseppe Alessandro Esposito has built an acclaimed career through a masterful collection of performances spanning theater, film, and television. Born in Copenhagen, Denmark, Esposito was raised in Rome, Italy, until he was five years old, when he and his family moved to New York City. After discovering his passion for acting, he earned a two-year degree in radio and television communications from Elizabeth Seton College in New York. He began developing his craft on stage, making his Broadway debut in the 1968 musical Maggie Flynn.

Esposito later found success through collaborations with filmmaker Spike Lee, appearing in several of his films. His breakout role as Buggin’ Out in Do the Right Thing (1989) showcased his ability to portray emotionally complex characters that resonated with both critics and audiences. He continued working with Lee in films including Mo’ Better Blues (1990), Jungle Fever (1991), and Malcolm X (1992), further establishing himself as a versatile performer.

His role as the calculating Gustavo “Gus” Fring in Breaking Bad and its prequel series Better Call Saul earned widespread praise and three Emmy nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.
